UN. Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities

At its 1st sess. (1947), the Commission on Human Rights decided to est. the Subcommission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities instead of two separate subcommissions (on protection of minorities and on the prevention of discrimination, respectively) as originally envisaged by the Economic and Social Council. In 1986 there was a draft resolution proposing a name change to the Subcommission of Experts on Human Rights, but it was not adopted. With effect from its 51st sess., 2-27 Aug. 1999, the name of the Subcommission changed to Subcommission on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights
